About NOCCS
- Charter schools are public schools, they receive public funds, are tuition-free and are open to any student who wishes to attend. Charter schools were created to help students who were not having their educational needs met in public schools. This has led to innovative teaching methods. HISTORY OF NOCCS
In 2000, a group of parents and educators in North Oakland, California, came together to create the North Oakland Community Charter School (NOCCS). The group's 10 core principles, which are still the foundation of the school, were created in 2000 to support young learners. NOCCS is a diverse learning community that respects each child's unique intelligence and history. The school is ethnically and socioeconomically diverse.
