Admissions

Any child who is a California resident is eligible to attend NOCCS. To be eligible for kindergarten the child must be 5 years old by December 1st of the fall in which they will start school.

Please note that, while an OUSD public charter school, NOCCS is not part of OUSD Options program. NOCCS has a separate admissions process.

2008 - 2009 admissions:

The 2008-2009 Admissions Lottery was held on March 20th, 2008. This year, we had 155 applicants for only 19 open spots in our school.

In keeping with our admissions policy, in addition to drawing applicants for open spots at NOCCS, we also held a drawing to create a waiting list.

If you applied to NOCCS by our admissions deadline in February:

  • You have received an offer letter OR a waitlist status letter with your child's NOCCS ID Number.
  • If you received a waitlist status letter, you may check her/his position on our waitlist (updated 4/8/08), which will be updated regularly. (We will also keep our waitlist posted in the lobby of our school.)
  • In order to protect the identity of each child, we post this information using the NOCCS ID number shown in the waitlist status letter.
  • We have generated letters offering open spaces to all applicants whose names were pulled for open spaces in our lottery. The families of these children will have until Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008 at 4 PM to accept these spots. If these families do not accept their spots at NOCCS, we will offer their vacated spots to the students on the top of the waiting lists for each grade. If your child is at the top of the waiting list when a spot becomes available, our office staff will call you to offer the spot. Because this is such a busy time of the year, we ask that you do not call our office with inquiries about the waiting list and/or open spaces.

If you did NOT apply to NOCCS by our admissions deadline in February, but want to be added to the waitlist:

  • Complete one Lottery Application form per student.
  • All applications received will be placed at the end of the waitlist in the order received.
  • We will not accept faxed or emailed applications; mail or deliver applications to: NOCCS Admissions, 1000 42nd Street , Oakland, CA 94608.

NOCCS welcomes all students and staff and does not discriminate on the basis of ethnic origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation or disability in administration of its educational policies and other school administered programs.
